POST 4; Friday Dec. 10th, Leadership Skills
In my workplace I believe I am using all of the leadership skills. I communicate powerfully by suggesting ideas to my partner Aj so we can get work done effectively and precisely. Recently we were assigned a project to do, it involved sketching out and painting a wooden board for the shop. We drew sketches of the fonts and came up with one that we would use. We both sketched out the letters on the board with chalk and took a long time trying to perfect it. We communicated powerfully by telling each other what worked and what didn't. This also ties into completing projects effectively. Overall the final piece looked pretty good. I've been collaborating productively with Aj throughout the internship, we're always together on tasks and projects, like passing out fliers, cleaning, and working on art.
During this experience I have noticed that some of the leadership skills are used mostly in the outside world. Completing projects effectively is a big one in this workplace because so many come in wanting artwork done on their body, you have to put your all into a single piece and not do it halfheartedly. Same with the business, everything from the financial stuff, to advertising has to be taken into consideration.
At Impact I have learned how to be a better collaborator. When I first started I was very awkward and it was hard for me to get in the groove of things. At this point in time that is way behind me and I'm able to go along with many tasks and projects. I like working with my partner Aj because not only do I know her, it's very helpful to get a second opinion on certain issues.
As a student I feel school is a lot more sit in your seat, read this, study this, take a test, BOOM grade. Working in a shop takes a lot more people skills and actual socializing. I feel more comfortable working than being in a classroom, it's great to get a change of scenery once a week.

Intro Post; How I got my WLE: Oct 26th
I got my internship by talking to my friend Aj about a connection she had with her mother's high school friend that just opened a tattoo shop. One day when we were at school looking up places I asked Aj if we could call her mom about Gina, the woman opening up the shop. Aj agreed and we got a hold of her. Aj's mom told us she would call Gina and asked us to call her back in 10 minutes. During that time we looked at their facebook and compared their style with other tattoo shops around; we confirmed that Wicked Artistry was the place for us. We called Åj's mom back and to our surprise Gina seemed pleased and was looking forward to meeting us. We were so happy and excited! We made a plan to meet that Saturday to go over paperwork and what we would be doing.
While looking for our internship, Aj and I used productive collaboration by talking to Aj's mom and calling Gina to speak about what our school is about and what we could possibly do to help their shop. Aj and I work together greatly anyway and I'm looking forward to continue working with her. We used effective and persuasive communication by speaking with Aj's mom about her connection and going to meet Gina and the crew that Saturday to talk about what we would be doing for the next couple of months.
My mentor is Gina, the owner of the shop along with her nephew Josh. When Gina isn't at the shop, Josh will be my mentor. They work for Wicked Artistry, a tattoo and piercing shop in Fremont. There are 3 other artists that work there as well, Ace, Jason, and Nate. Adrian is the only piercer. For now Aj and I will be working to prepare for their huge grand opening celebration since they're a fairly new shop. I've been going before the actual WLE date to help them with what they need, I've been there 3 times so far. I helped with formatting a board they're going to use to advertise the shop and I also learned how to set up equipment and clean it. They're big on sanitation, which is a huge factor in keeping healthy tattoos, piercings, as well as people.
